The Avengers

During the course of the five movies leading up to “Marvel’s The Avengers,” there’s been a number of great lines. For today’s fun, try matching the stars of The Avengers with their quote:
- “Let’s face it, this is not the worst thing you’ve caught me doing.”
- “Don’t make me hungry. You wouldn’t like me when I’m hungry. “
- “This mortal form grows weak. I require sustenance! “
- “Sir, I’m gonna have to ask you to exit the donut. “
- ” Yeah. Yeah, I just… I had a date. “
- “You better call it Coulson, cause I’m starting to root for this guy. “
- “If you try to escape, or play any sort of games with me, I will taze you and watch “Supernanny” while you drool into the carpet. “
- “Leave me alone. “
- “I would do whatever I wanted to do, with whomever I wanted to.”
- “The burden of the throne has fallen to me now. “

‘‘The Incredible Hulk” smashes its way through a rock ‘em, sock ‘em romp. It’s sure to please summer audiences and restore faith that the big green guy — with apologies to Shrek — is on top once again. More

To help the hype and to catch anyone who missed out on all of the build-up to “Marvel’s The Avengers,” I’m posting my old reviews, along with my fresh 2012 take on the movie.
With Iron Man already in the can, it’s time to look at 2008′s other big Marvel movie, “The Incredible Hulk,” which probably had a bit more pressure to be good after the dismal performance of the 2003 take on the gamma-infused giant. Take a look back with me now at another path on the road to The Avengers. Enjoy.

There’s a trio of new releases coming out this Tuesday. I’m not adding any of them to my collection, but should you? Read all about them here.

Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) tries out his armor’s repulsor rays in “Iron Man.”
It’s amazing how imaginative and fun a comic book movie can be when the restraints of making it easier to relate to and more real-world are lifted.
Then the directors and screenwriters can make a film faithful to its source.
Such is the case of ‘‘Iron Man,” arguably the purest comic book-to-film translation ever made. [2012 Flash Forward: Yep. Still pretty comfortable with that statement] And the result is a movie that hardcore comic book geeks and non-fans alike will enjoy and want to see again and again. [2012 Flash Forward: True story. I'm probably at my 10th viewing of it now.] More

Mei (Catherine Chan) and Luke Wright (Jason Statham) in “SAFE.”
“Safe” seems like a pretty formulaic Jason Statham vehicle. Once again the brawny Brit is putting his fighting skills to the test against hordes of goons in order to protect a hapless victim. The premise sounds like the latest installment of “The Transporter,” the franchise that catapulted Statham to superstardom, but “Safe” is easily one of the best action films I’ve seen in a decade and firmly cements Statham’s status as this generation’s coolest, kick-tail action megastar. Taraji P. Henson, Think Like a Man

With Taraji P. Henson in 2005. This was a fun interview as Taraji is also from Maryland and graduated from Howard University two years after I arrived so we had a bit more to talk about then the normal “this new movie of mine is so awesome, go see it.”
Continuing an excellent trend with another leading lady from “Think Like a Man,” Taraji was just as cool and pleasant as her co-star Gabrielle Union. While she was by no means a newcomer by 2005, Taraji’s star continued to rise and she’s been featured in “Smokin’ Aces,” “Not Easily Broken” and one of my favorites — “The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons” alongside Brad Pitt. Not bad for a fellow Bison.
