Having the record Tuesday opening sounds a lot like a CBS statistic of “the best new comedy at 8 p.m. on Mondays,” but “The Amazing Spider-Man” webbed up $35 million to set a new Tuesday record beating out the $27.9 million haul of the original “Transformers.”

It’s safe to assume the film will prove to be an attractive option for audiences looking to escape the holiday heat as the Eastern region was enduring near 100-degree temperatures. An air-conditioned way to beat the heat and keep the kids occupied until the fireworks should prove to be a sound strategy for many parents. Box office analysts suspect the film will earn about $150 million this weekend. Not bad for a re-launch.

Last week’s winner, “Ted,” was all but guaranteed not to enjoy consecutive weeks atop the box office and brought in $8.4 million Tuesday. The R-rated raunchfest should hit $100 million during the weekend.
