CHRISTIAN BALE as Batman in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ action thriller “THE DARK KNIGHT RISES,” a Warner Bros. Pictures release.

The Dark Knight Rises” cracked the $300 million mark Tuesday in its 12th day of release to earn $304 million. In just about any other summer that would be major news, but “Marvel’s The Avengers” reached $389 million in the same span and was rapidly closing in on $400 million. “TDKR” is also trailing behind “The Dark Knight,” which was at $333 million in the same time frame. At least in “TDK’s” case it also had to contend with a highly-viewed 2008 Summer Olympics and Michael Phelps’ record-setting quest.

This places it at #39 on the All-Time U.S. Box Office charts behind “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.” “TDKR” brought in about $8 million on Tuesday so if it follows that pattern, it should reach #27 “Shrek the Third” by Friday.

“TDKR’s” only main competition this week is the remake of “Total Recall,” which could knock it out of the top spot. With a $64 million haul last weekend, it’s possible that “TDKR” will get about half that this weekend. If that is the case, that’d be enough to knock “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” from the #20 All-Time Spot. So as a personal favor to me everyone, PLEASE SEE THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. I really can’t stand those Bay-tainted mockeries masquerading as Transformers.
