Robert Downey Jr., Joss Whedon, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans enjoy a relaxed moment during shooting of “Marvel’s The Avengers.”
In what is easily the week’s best news for me, Variety reports that Joss Whedon is returning to write and direct the sequel to “Marvel’s The Avengers,” the third highest grossing movie of all-time.
Whedon managed the difficult task of juggling the six main heroes – Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye and gave audiences the best cinematic take on the Hulk yet. Better yet, he showed how fun comic book films can be when a director isn’t afraid to embrace the challenge of making a comic book come to life and not try to “realistic it down” for mainstream audiences. “Avengers 2″ is slated to come out in 2015 after the next round of Marvel films – “Iron Man 3,” “Captain America: The Winter Solider,” “Thor: The Dark World,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Ant-Man.”
Also interestingly, Whedon – the acclaimed writer/director for the fan-favorite “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” TV series – signed an exclusive deal with Walt Disney that includes helping to develop a Marvel TV show for ABC so this ensures that there’ll be at least one quality show worth watching in the next few years.
