The Cabin in the Woods – No actor’s other actor had a better three years than Chris Hemsworth. He had a brief, but memorable role in the “Star Trek,” then hit the jackpot by being cast as the lead in 2011′s “Thor,” which led to a one of the main roles in “Marvel’s The Avengers,” the year’s biggest blockbuster and the third highest grossing film of all time and his stock continues to rise with starring roles in “Snow White and the Huntsman” and the forthcoming “Red Dawn” remake. It also helps get movies that were on the shelf released in theaters. In this Joss Whedon/Drew Goddard horror/thriller, five friends travel to a cabin that has more secrets than they imagined. I haven’t seen this yet, but I’ve yet to see anything Whedon’s been involved in that I haven’t enjoyed tremendously and I doubt he’ll start here either.

Katy Perry stars in “KATY PERRY: PART OF ME” from InSurge Pictures.

Katy Perry: Part of Me – Katy Perry seems like the perfect singer to feature in a 3D concert film. Her videos pop with crazy colors and effects in standard 2D and her charisma seems like the kind of in-your-face fun without being obnoxious (see: Minaj, Nicki), but not too many people were interested in seeing her behind and on-stage antics as it grossed a paltry $32 million. The best Katy Perry scene of the year for me had to be her “Fireworks” song in “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted,” which really took advantage of 3D to create one of the summer’s most breathtaking and imaginative scenes.

Indiana Jones: The Complete Collection – I’m baffled about the ads for this as it says this has all FOUR Indiana Jones films. By my count there’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “Temple of Doom” and “The Last Crusade.” Nope, definitely not a fourth and certainly not any that feature that guy from “Transformers.” Nope, not at all. Still, three must-have movies for any collection and one really cool Frisbee entitled “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” isn’t a bad deal at all.
