Brave – I didn’t Pixar’s attempt at a heroine all that much, largely because our “hero,” Merida, doesn’t do anything especially heroic and it’s more of a fairy tale than the animated action/adventure that was promised in the trailers.
Savages – A pair of pot growers (Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Taylor-Johnson) try to get their [you read that right] girlfriend (Blake Lively) back from a drug cartel led by Selma Hayek. Sigh. I can’t imagine another actor looking more forward to 2013 to escape a lousy 2012 (“John Carter’s” awful box-office haul, “Battleship’s” general awfulness) more than Kitsch.
The Watch – No one, absolutely no one cared about this one. Four losers (Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill and Richard Ayoade) reason that they can get out of their boring family lives by forming a neighborhood watch and then have to save the world from an alien invasion. “Independence Day” this was not. Think I’m safe in assuming that Don Lemon won’t be picking up a copy of this tomorrow, right? And at this point, does Hill get along with anyone in Hollywood?
