The Call – Halle Berry’s latest thriller is a goofy drama that aspires to be an edge-of-your seat thriller, but it’s just too dumb to be taken seriously. It’s the kind of movie that may be fun to watch with your best movie-heckling friends, but be warned to not go in expecting much more from it beyond that.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone – Other critics did not fall under the spell of this Steve Carrell magician comedy about an aging performer trying to move on after splitting from his longtime partner (Steve Buscemi) and consistently being one-upped by an extreme street performer (Jim Carrey).

While it may not be the comedy event of the year, I laughed and found it perfectly enjoyable thanks to its great cast and silly gags.

Upside Down – Jim Sturgess (“Cloud Atlas“) and Kristen Dunst (“Bachelorette“) star in this science-fiction romance about a couple who live on two different worlds and seek to reconnect after a forced 10-year separation.Upside Down poster

I haven’t gotten around to seeing this one yet, but the concept sounds interesting enough that it may be worth checking out despite its 29% freshness rating on www.rottentomatoes.com.
