If you’ve been reading long enough this year, you’ll no doubt have read one of my belly-aching posts complaining about how “Iron Man 3” turned Iron Man’s main adversary, The Mandarin, into a comedic subplot. It was the first real affront to translating a comic character to the Marvel Studios universe.
Now, at least according to Latino Review, Marvel Studios is attempting to make good with disgruntled fanboys (or is that redundant?) like myself who just couldn’t get over IM3′s twist. Sir Ben Kingsley will apparently be starring in another mini Marvel movie — the about 17 min. specials included as a bonus to the full length films — where his “Trevor” will have an encounter with the real Mandarin.
Honestly, this news is as about as great as I could have hoped for. The genuine Mandarin wouldn’t be above letting an imposter let the world think he is no longer a threat. We don’t even need to see him (but if we do, hey casting director — what’s Ken Watanabe up to these days?) just show a shrouded figure kicking back with 10 actual magical rings of power.
I’ll assume we’ll actually get to see this once the Blu-Ray/DVD for “Thor: The Dark World” is released since that’s the next Marvel Studios film. That should come to stores at the earliest around February so there’s plenty of time to speculate.
