First look at "Guardians of the Galaxy"

I’ll be taking a look at this a bit more in depth a little later, but here’s the first look and synopsis for one of Marvel Studios’ two big offerings in 2014.

Guardians of the Galaxy first look

Here’s the official synopsis:

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team — the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill (Chris Pratt, “Zero Dark Thirty”) finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan (Lee Pace, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug“), a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe.
To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper, “American Hustle“), a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid (voiced by Vin Diesel, “Fast and Furious 6“), the deadly and enigmatic Gamora (Zoe Saldana, “Out of the Furnace“) and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer (WWE’s Dave Batista). But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace is poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.
Pace was one of the bright spots of “Smaug” so I’m thrilled he’s gonna have such a major role in the film. “Guardians” may not be on your radar, but I’ve got a feeling it could be one of the year’s biggest surprises and hits. It comes to theaters on Aug. 1.

Marvel really needs to release a trailer on this soon, they can’t keep sitting up here without a trailer. This film is not an established brand name like Spidey, Cap and the X-Men so it’s really paramount that they get trailers out on this film and really sell it to the public. I mean talking about how good the film looks and showing stills are good for the fanboys, but to reach the general audience and catch their attention they’re going to have to do a lot more than that

  • I’m really looking forward to seeing this trailer! I don’t know if they have to build buzz for it so long as it looks good.

They don’t have to make an effort to get the comic book crowd, but this could appeal to the fringe sci-fi fan that doesn’t like the traditional superhero film.

Trust me Jeff they do have to build buzz, this ain’t The Avengers. I’ll be seeing it and you’ll be seeing it no matter what, but I’m telling you the movie audiences as a whole are different, they’re not comic book geeks like us, so they have to be won over. The Avengers wasn’t the smash hit it was because of it’s comic book history, it was a smash hit because it put together characters on the big screen that movie audiences have grown to know and love. Those audiences don’t know much about GOTG, they just don’t yet. But Marvel can change that with big exciting trailers that could catch their attention and get them excited to see it. Jeff I get what your saying, but when you have an unproven franchise sci-fi or not, you still have to sell it to audiences and convince them it’s worth going to the cinema to see. I want this to be a big smash no doubt about it, so Marvel has to make sure it exceeds the common fanboy base, because that won’t be enough to make this film a big hit. Now I know it had a fantastic showcase at the SDCC last summer, but again that was among the fanboy crowd. Now it’s time to reach general movie audiences.
