Easter Eggs for "Captain America: The Winter Soldier"

Captain America The Winter Soldier Easter EggsOk you’ve just finished watching “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” but there were a few things you weren’t quite sure of the significance of them as you’re not as well versed in all things Cap like you are say Spider-Man or Batman.

After watching the movie the first time, I came up with this handy list of all the Easter Eggs and fun references you may have missed. Hopefully this goes without saying, but from here on out I’m referencing things from “Winter Soldier” so if you haven’t seen it yet DON’T GO ANY FURTHER TO PREVENT SPOILERS!!! That said, let’s go:

During a mission in World War II, the pre-teen Bucky is presumed dead as he joins Cap in trying to stop Baron Zemo. Like Cap, his body is preserved in the cold water and he’s retrieved by a Russian patrol sub minus his arm and memory. He is programmed to be an assassin and after carrying out his assignments, is put back in cryogenic status so he barely aged by the time he encounters Captain America.

Arnim_Zola_(Earth-616)While “Captain America: The First Avenger” teased Arnim Zola’s comic appearance, the character’s appearance in “Winter Solider” is far closer including the camera device in place of his head.

Captain America and FalconIn the comics, Falcon was Cap’s longtime partner to the point that Captain America’s comic was renamed “Captain America and The Falcon” for years.

Captain America’s new outfit is based on his Commander Rogers attire from the costume when he became the new director of SHIELD.

Anthony Mackie, who played Falcon, reportedly wanted to wear a costume with more red to look like his comic book counterpart.

bucky cap.3In the comics, The Winter Solider ends up donning Cap’s identity for a time while Rogers is presumed dead.

Brock Rumlow is a frequent partner of Cap in the film before he’s revealed as a HYDRA mole under Pierce’s command. In the comics, Rumlow is the frequent Cap villain Crossbones, the top henchman for The Red Skull.

Agent 13 Sharon CarterInspired by her aunt Peggy (originally her older sister) Sharon Carter joins SHIELD and becomes Cap’s on-and-off girlfriend.

Comic Captain America and The FalconWhile Falcon’s wing set has a Stark logo on it, in the comics, Black Panther actually comes up with Falcon’s flying harness.

As in the movie, in the comics Jasper Sitwell is a double agent. In the comics however, Sitwell was a loyal SHIELD agent and part of Nick Fury’s inner circle until he was brainwashed by HYDRA and made to take part in a plot against his former mentor. Eventually, Fury and SHIELD help Sitwell get deprogrammed.

Dr. Strange Marvel ComicsWhen mentioning potential targets, Sitwell says “Stephen Strange,” Marvel Comics’ Dr. Strange, another character Marvel Studios plans to spotlight in his own film.

Pay close attention to a necklace Black Widow wears. It features an arrow, a nod to her on-and-off again boyfriend Hawkeye.

Pulp Fiction shot-out: On Fury’s tombstone an inscription reads: “The path of the righteous man. Ezekiel 25:17” a quote from Jackson’s Jules Winnifield’s often quoted scripture reference.

The twins Baron Von Strucker is observing is Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch. After the original founding members — Iron Man, Thor, Giant Man and Wasp — departed, Captain America was left to lead three new recruits Hawkeye, Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver. Cap's Kookey Quartet Captain America, Hawkeye, Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch The AvengersIn one on set scene already revealed of “The Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Hawkeye and Scarlett Witch are fighting together perhaps hinting at a scene where “Cap’s Kookey Quartet” is working together.

  • Awesome easter eggs, fun to learn about them.

  • Thanks. I was amazed how much they put in there!

I geeked out a bit when sitwell mentioned strange. I even put in my Marvel vs Capcom 3 this weekend and hawkeye talks trash to Cap about the kooky quartet before a match. Good times. By the way Jeff do you fool around with MVC3?

im just glad that this movie is supposed to shake up Agents of Shield.. hopefully you will grace with an update on this after the smoke clears. I think some cast members are getting bumped. at least 2 of them of should get replaced for more action types. Greg Clark deserves better than this trivial crap.

  • That’s cool. I didn’t realize they had those kinds of tidbits in the games. I think my brother has it, but he doesn’t really like it all that much so I never bothered.

  • Funny you should mention that. I may recap the last two episodes today or tomorrow.
