Josh Brolin will star as Thanos in “Guardians of the Galaxy” #Thanos #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy

Thanos-AvengersWe only got a teaser of Marvel’s death-dealing villain in the post credits scene of “Marvel’s The Avengers,” but now we’re gonna get a good glimpse of Thanos in “Guardians of the Galaxy” and he’ll be played by Josh Brolin according to Latino Review.

josh brolin to play thanosBrolin is no stranger to comic book movies, starring in the unfortunate misfire “Jonah Hex” with Megan Fox and Michael Fassbender, but this role should prove a lot more substantial.

It’s all but a certainty that Thanos will be playing a significant role as the major villain in “The Avengers 3” and there’s a rumor that he may also pop up for another cameo in “The Avengers: Age of Ultron,” which is set for next year.

Jeff I seen this news and said whoa, Marvel just hit the jackpot again. Funny thing is Brolin was up for the role of Batman, but I believe he turned it down if I’m not mistaken, maybe this is the reason. He’s a fantastic actor and I think a great fit for a complex role like Thanos which will be needed. Rumor is he’ll just be the voice of Thanos in GOTG, have a more significant role in AOU and he will be mo-cap in “Avengers 3” like Ruffalo for hulk and Spader for ‘Ultron’. But man Spader as ‘Ultron’ and now Brolin as ‘Thanos’, are you f’n kidding me, Marvel is not playing are they. They just shut it down in the CBM world with this bit of stunning news today.

  • Fred

You have one day of bad news when Wright departs as director of “Ant-Man” than have news like this today. Just when you think it could be a little chink in Marvel’s armor they come back with a cast signing stronger than Vibranium haha.

  • That was the rumor Fred. I like Affleck a lot more for Batman so this works out well for all of us.

Marvel Studios’ biggest competition for CBM news is pretty much solely itself these days.

  • Definitely a strong way to rebound, but it sounds like options for Wright’s replacement are already lined up.

  • Fred

Yeah, I think it’s best Afleck ended up with the role of Batman while Brolin will play Thanos, both are in great positions to do great things in their respective roles. Both have also starred in Best Picture winners coincidently as well.

  • Fred

Indeed that’s what it sounds like, and I think those options have probably been in the works for a few months. I don’t think those options started just a few weeks ago, it probably dates back to as far as last year. I’m not one that’s putting the blame on either side, I think sometimes people’s opinions just grow apart. I do think Wright just simply was taking too long and some of those ideas like Hank Pym being an old man didn’t jive too well with Marvel.

  • Neat point. I may have to do an Oscar tally for the two companies and their respective actors.

  • Possibly. I think they’re too far along to reverse the old Hank Pym angle, but we’ll see (fingers crossed).

  • Fred

Yeah, I’m pretty sure both companies would have a pretty strong Oscar count. To my best knowledge right now with the signing of Brolin, that’s at least 6 actors and actresses who have starred in Best Picture winners. They might not be able to reverse the old Hank Pym angle, unless there was an alternate storyline Marvel had in the pipelines for a little while. Too me it just seems like Wright was going a little too far in his own artististic vision where it had little to no connection with the rest of the MCU, if that was indeed the case I’m sorry bro but he had to go. Unless Marvel was deciding to keep him distanced from the rest of the MCU which seems unlikely.

  • Odd. I’d thought it would have been more.

It’s odd when you consider how long he’s had to refine his idea based off of what had been going on with the other MS films.

  • Fred

Now keep in mind Jeff I’m talking strictly Marvel Studios only since 2008, there have also been several best/supporting actor/actress winners as well in the MCU. Yes that is odd, but you have a idea for your shared universe you can have one person come in and throw something off track.

  • Ben

You got to give it Marvel, they know how to cast a movie…

  • Fred

I agree. Now hopefully we’ll hear news on Black Panther and Dr. Strange casting at the SDCC in a few weeks, those confirmations are long overdue IMO.

  • That they do. I’m very curious about upcoming cast announcements at SDCC!

  • Fred

Jeff either you read my mind or my message I left a few minutes ago lol. How many of the Hot Toys SDCC exclusives are you planning to get out of the 3?

  • I’m still debating my man LOL.
Joker is too darn tempting and I really like the Python Iron Man. Did you decide if you were doing all three?

  • Fred

Jeff I’m think about getting all 3, as long as I can put all 3 figures on flexpay it’s a chance i’ll get them. No interest in ‘Ancient Predator’ for you, he’s probably the most sought after of all the predators, his aftermarket prices became really expensive. I have the Mark 42, Thor light armor exclusive, Silver Centurion, Robocop, Heartbreaker, Elder Predator, Loki exclusive, Bruce Banner, Starboost/Gemini, and Chitauri Foot Soldier & Commander all coming over the next 2-3 months.

  • Man, that is a major haul coming by the end of the summer! Do you have display space for all of them?

  • Fred

I meant to say i’m ‘thinking’ about, oh boy haha. Fortunately I do have the space Jeff. I recently sold ‘Ghost Rider’ and the T-800 MMS117 since I now have the DX13 exclusive. I just sold my ‘Catwoman’ today on Ebay and I have Spider-Man 3 MMS143 and Berserker Predator up for sale as well. I’m selling a few older pieces to help clear a little space and give me just a little more wiggle room financially. Have you seen the new pics of the Mark 42, it looks incredible as does the new Thor figure and Silver Centurion.

  • Ahh. I was really curious there!
No, I’ve gotta check them out!

  • Ben

Is Black Panther definitely going ahead?

  • Fred

I would really like to think it is going ahead Ben, because Marvel is really doing a great injustice to themselves by not announcing Black Panther into the MCU. It’s bordering on some racism and it’s flat out ridiculous that this fantastic character has still yet to used, let alone even announced or officially confirmed. Each summer that goes by at the annual SDCC I get more and more pissed at Marvel for not introducing T’Challa, just get on with it and freaking confirm him already, what the hell are they so sacred. To me I think it’s pathetic and damn shame that the great Stan Lee and Jack Kirby we’re brave enough to create this incredible character back in 1966 in far more conservative racially divided time, yet today in 2014 a far more diverse time Marvel and Kevin Feige are still dragging their feet when it comes to introducing this character. If you see any poll that asks people what comic book superhero they would like to see on the big screen, Black Panther usually tops the list. Of course there have been countless rumors throughout the years like Marvel had their eye on ‘Chadwick Boseman’ and ‘Chiwetel Ejiofor’ for the role of T’Challa. There has also been a rumor that a scene in ‘Age of Ultron’ has ‘Ultron’ invading Wakanda for Vibranium and T’Challa is featured in this scene. But I’m tired of hearing constant rumors from these sites, I want to hear Marvel speak on this and make some official confirmations for a change, they open their damn big mouths on everything else when they’ve got something to say. Marvel better do something big at SDCC this month, because it sounds like DC is coming with a big new line of film they’ll be officially confirming. And I mean more than some sorry ass news on what’s going on ‘Ant-Man’, that’s not nearly good enough. I want to hear Black Panther, Dr. Strange and Ms. Marvel confirmations, as well as the rest of the Phase 3 line up and a Black Panther film better be in that phase. Don’t get me wrong now, I love the MCU and what they have done starting with “Iron Man” back in ’08, but it’s time for some much needed diversity and featuring ‘Scarlet Witch’ in AOU is a step in that direction, but Marvel still needs to do more. And as much as I like ‘War Machine’, ‘Falcon’ and even ‘Heimdall’, they’re all sidekick characters on the big screen, Black Panther is a LEADING black superhero, he’s no one’s sidekick or back up as I’m sure we’re all very aware of. He has ‘Thor’s’ royalty, ‘Stark’s’ brains and ‘Cap’s’ physical abilities but more cunning. Also to keep in mind is that DC is going to introduce Cyborg who’s a lead black superhero as well. Sorry for the long response haha, but I just found myself having to vent a little more at Marvel for their lack of diversity.

  • Ben

No, you make absolutely valid points. They are taking a “risk” with the less familiar and bizarre Guardians of the Galaxy so there is little reason to give a leading role to black superhero and a female one. I’m as hopeful as you for some promising announcements at Comic-Con.

  • Fred

And by not making a Black and female superhero film Marvel runs an even bigger risk at alienating their minority and female fan bases. Right now everything is rosy and Marvel can seem to do no wrong, but they are doing wrong here and it will eventually catch up with them and bite them in their asses if they don’t address it like they should. Now hey I’m a big fan of Iron Man, Thor, Spider-Man, Cap, Hulk, etc. That being said you just can’t keep running predominantly white male LEAD superheroes on the assembly line, you need diversity or it will get old and stale eventually. Marvel can break new ground with characters like Black Panther and Ms. Marvel getting their own films, they just need to man up and stop acting like p’s(cats)lol.
