We knew Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart wouldn’t be reprising their roles as Magneto and Professor X in “X-Men: Apocalypse” as the 2016 flick will be more or less a relaunch of the franchise. And now 20th Century Fox has announced three of the most important to the new look X-Men.
Tye Sheridan (“Mud [Blu-ray]“), Sophie Turner (“Game of Thrones: Season 4 (Blu-Ray+Digital Copy)“) and Alexandra Shipp, who you’ll best remember from the infamous Lifetime biopic on Aaliyah. As a huge Cyclops fan, Sheridan doesn’t do a whole lot for me, but Turner is outstanding casting. Shipp must consider this role a godsend as that Aaliyah role could have been a career-killer.
They’ll be joined by returning cast members Michael Fassbender as Magneto, James McAvoy as Professor X and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique as they take on Oscar Isaac who will star as the villain Apocalypse.
Three X-Men is still a very light roster though so hopefully more will be added to the group. Nicholas Hoult should be back as Beast and this restart actually allows for Shawn Ashmore’s Iceman to return as a founding member like he should have been from the start.
