We’ve got another stellar cosplayer this week, the talented Kittumgirl Cosplay who specializes in video game characters. She graciously shared with us some of her cosplay experiences. Check out her fantastic work in this profile here.
How did you get into cosplay? Well, at around the same time I heard about Cosplay I was also in the process of playing Kingdom Hearts. I got so attached to my favorite character Axel that I felt like I just had to give Cosplay a go. I got super passionate (and maybe a little obsessed) with creating an extremely accurate Cosplay of him.
What’s been your favorite? My favorite is probably Sebastian from Black Butler.
What was the hardest costume you’ve done? Hm… Probably Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite DLC. I’ve never learned how to sew or do anything crafty, especially with clothing before. So, in order to enter in a contest, I had to make part of the costume by hand. I learned how to sew on the spot and spent hours gathering materials the day before in order to sew everything together.
How much time does it take to make an average costume? For me, about 30 hours- purely because of the wig. Since I can’t sew very well, I put most of the focus in my costumes into the wigs and makeup.
How much money do you typically spend on your outfits? I spend about 300$ on my average Cosplay costume.
What makes it so rewarding? Seeing the looks on people’s faces when I go to conventions makes everything completely worthwhile to me. Never in my life have I ever had the ability to make someone’s day like I can when I’m in Cosplay. It’s truly a blessing.
Do you have a regular group you partner up with for costumes? I don’t have a group, but I always go with my best friend to conventions.
What would you say to people who have thought about doing cosplay, but haven’t quite worked up the nerve yet? I know there’s a lot of pressure out there to look like so and so, or act like so and so. But there is no one in the world out there who acts and looks like how you do. No matter what your body type, skin color, gender, *anything*, never be afraid to Cosplay. Don’t be afraid of what people might think of you, because they don’t matter. All that matters is that you’re doing what you love. I promise you won’t regret it.
Do you have a website people can check out more of your costumes? I do!
