Had a blast rolling around on the first day of Awesome Con 2015. Every year the event is getting bigger and better. This time the main floor was in an even larger space. It’ll be interesting to see how it fills up tomorrow, but on Friday there was more than enough space to maneuver. Here’s my quick roundup of my great experience.
I got to chat a bit with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles star Judith Hoag (the original April O’Neil). While she declined to confirm her rumored involvement in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 set for next year, she was every bit as charming as you’d hoped.
She’ll be there through Sunday so if you’re a Turtles fan, I’d definitely recommend scheduling some time to meet her.
One of my favorite moments from Friday came when I talked with Brian Tee (The Wolverine), who most fans would remember most from Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift. He seemed thrilled to be referred to as ‘The Drift King,’ and Casper Van Dien from ‘Starship Troopers‘ came over and playfully hammed it up with us for awhile. Both guys were great and will be there through Sunday as well.
Definitely make sure to catch some of the comic book creators there. I talked to S.L. Gallant (G.I. Joe), Peter Krause (Daredevil) and several on-the-rise creators, which is always great to see people chasing their dreams. Check them out as there’s likely something that will appeal to you.
And as always, I got some great pictures of some of the many talented cosplayers in attendance.
Can’t wait to see what people are rocking tomorrow.
If you’re in the DC area, it’s definitely worth coming out.
