Black Panther film now coming out on Black History Month

In case you forget, we now live in a Marvel movie world. The rest — except for maybe the Jurassic World and Star Wars universes — are vying for second best.

Ant Man - Hope van Dyne, Scott Lang and Hank PymMarvel announced the sequel to its surprise summer hit “Ant-Man” today and we’ll be seeing “Ant-Man and The Wasp” on July 6, 2018.

Marvel also revealed we’ll be getting Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther much earlier than expected. The film starring the first black superhero will be coming out fittingly on Feb. 16, 2018 instead of the original July 6 date. Just in time for Black History Month.

Captain MarvelThe reshuffling does push back one film as now Captain Marvel is coming out March 8, 2019 instead of November 2, 2018.

Marvel has three new films that have not yet been announced slated for May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020 and November 6, 2020.  I know that sounds far away, but with this escalating comic book movie war between Marvel and DC, the next five years are going to fly by.

Big news from Marvel today and i’m pretty excited about if for a few reasons. For one we’ll be seeing “Black Panther” 5 months sooner and now before he appears in ‘Infinity War’ part 1, i’m also excited about “Ant-Man and the Wasp” now dropping in July. The only part I consider a little of a letdown is we’ll now have to wait 4 more months to see “Captain Marvel”, but i’m absolutely sure we’ll be seeing her well before her solo movie drops, maybe not as Captain Marvel but certainly as Carol Danvers for sure. I’m very interested to find out what those new 3 announced films for 2020 will be, care to guess because Marvel probably won’t announce them for another year. Marvel has adjusted their ‘Phase 3’ line up a few times now which is no big deal at all, because these movies don’t release for another 2-3 years. If they released a year from now that might be a little concern, but with so much time until these films release they can afford to adjust these release schedules.

  • Yes indeed! I’m thinking for sure we see Carol before Infinity War and I’m thrilled to see Wasp definitely going to be involved going forward. I’d expect her in Infinity War too.

I think there is a 100% chance we see Carol before we see her in her solo film. My best guess is well see her in debut in one of the three 2017 MCU films. Seeing Wasp will be great because between her, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Captain Marvel, Gamora, Medussa, Crystal and possibly Clea(Played By McAdams) that will not only gives us a good deal of female superheroes to counter the male testosterone but a lot of eye candy as well baby haha. And that’s not even counting even more strong female leads/eye candy in Black panther’s film like his sister and his personal female body guard.

I meant to say Shuri and the Dora Milaje, you can definitely through those sisters in the mix as well as being strong powerful women in leading and substantial roles in the MCU. I’m really starting to truly think Marvel is going all out here with diversity in their films with non white male characters in big leading roles. I’ve heard a few people voicing concerns about Marvel potentially watering down Black Panther and his background, but I don’t think so because there is just too much on the line for the character that Marvel has to come correct with him. Plus I do believe Marvel has big plans for the character, there is a reason that Black Panther is the first hero in the MCU who will get his own solo film after appearing in a previous film. Well technically Spider-Man will be the first, but his role will not be nearly as significant as Black panther’s will be in ‘Civil War’.

  • Oh yeah, definitely thinking the female ranks will be more than Black Widow and Scarlet Witch by Infinity War 🙂

  • Yeah, I haven’t seen anything that has me concerned about watering down anything regarding Panther. If anything, it seems like Marvel is really trying to make sure it does right with the property.

  • fred

Yeah the MCU will be loaded with Female heroes kicking you know what lol. While this won’t answer every question about the lack of diversity in films, it will help Marvel a lot and will be some big steps towards getting to more equality in future films in Hollywood.

Yeah i’m not concerned about Marvel watering down Black Panther either because I don’t think they will. As I said before I think his character is too important to us fans and even Marvel themselves foe them to take him lightly. I think after he appears in ‘Civil War’ movie audiences are going to be extra excited about his solo film. Black Panther could end up having a lot more going for him than both Ant-Man and Doctor Strange had/have going into their solo films, I say this because movie audiences will already know he is going into his solo film and they just might be entrenched into him by that time. So instead of performing like a debut solo film, ‘Black Panther’ could end up performing more like a sequel which might push his box office numbers much higher than a normal first solo film might make.

  • Oh, I can totally see Black Panther putting up some crazy numbers. I wouldn’t be shocked to see it do better than either Thor film or the first Captain America film.

  • Definitely. I’m trying to think of who the biggest Latino and Asian heroes Marvel could tap for the big screen now.
