I’m not gonna lie. I’m probably going to be watching the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer a few dozen times until the next one arrives.
I wasn’t totally convinced we needed movies of every aspect of the Star Wars saga — especially since the timeframe I’m most curious about circa post Return of the Jedi Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (Limited Edition Steel Book) [Blu-ray]
to Force Awakens — won’t be addressed, but this one hooked me almost from the start.
It’s more than Felicity Jones marking another Star Wars film with a female lead though. From Donnie Yen to Forest Whitaker, Riz Ahmed and Diego Luna, this installment furthers Walt Disney and Lucasfilm’s efforts to make the Star Wars saga more reflective of today’s society.
Here’s five more quick thoughts from the trailer:
Is Disney/Lucasfilm planning to create bread crumbs for the sequel trilogy i.e. introducing characters in these spin-offs who missed the original trilogy who could resurface in the continuing adventures of Rey, Finn and Poe?
The Gareth Edwards film is set for release Dec. 28.
