Despite the Christopher Nolan trilogy, Tim Burton’s two Batman films are fondly remembered. The first one kicked off the superhero summer blockbuster trend. Beyond its flashy set design and intriguing cast, producer Jon Peters further stacked the odds by bringing Prince on board to do the soundtrack.
Prince seemed to relish the opportunity to do a new soundtrack as it’d been a number of years since Purple Rain and Under the Cherry Moon. Prince devoted an amazing effort to the work and it’s right next to Flash Gordon as best comic book/comic strip soundtrack. This is before comic book soundtracks were reduced to big bombastic orchestra set pieces.
For folks in my generation, the soundtrack remains a classic and a rare moment of creativity and brilliance coming together with the perfect property.
