Ninja Turtles sequel Out of the Shadows wins weak box office
It wasn’t especially dominant, but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows captured the box office title
This was a steep drop off from the first film, which brought in $65.6 million. That’s somewhat disappointing as the sequel was a lot better.
It’d be awful for the Paramount Pictures execs to conclude that the sequel didn’t succeed because it was closer in tone to the 80s cartoon. Still with little in the way of competition for family dollars, Turtles should retain its title next week.
X-Men: Apocalypse continued to under perform compared to its predecessors. In its sophomore week, the film brought in $22.3 million taking its total to $116.5 million.
Me Before You looked to be the weekend’s most profitable film. In its debut weekend it earned $18.3 million. Given its $20 million budget, the film looks like it will make a solid profit for distributor Warner Bros.
Alice Through the Looking Glass took fourth place with $10.7 million to take its total to $50.8 million. And in fifth place was Angry Birds with $9.8 million to reach $86.7 million.
