WWE Legends line revealed
Mattel released MOC and loose images of its WWE Legends series. The lineup is The Ultimate Warrior (Wrestlemania 6), Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Kamala, Chris Jericho and Magnum TA.
Mattel thankfully tempered customer expectation by saying this set was re-releases with minor deco changes to Y2J. Magnum TA is the only debuting figure in the set. I’m a bit baffled by this decision.
Shawn Michaels definitely would have been worth a purchase in any other color attire. Ultimate Warrior is reaching the point of excess despite collectors still waiting on an Elite version of his 1991 Royal Rumble USA attire. I’m not interested in another Undertaker figure until an Elite 1998 version gets released.
These re-release choices are somewhat puzzling as well. The Elite Series Diesel goes for around $70 loose on eBay while you can find a loose Kamala for about $30. It’s not that hard to find the Elite 23 Undertaker for under $30 either. The Legends 5 Bam Bam Bigelow? Good luck tracking one down for under $50.
I really like Magnum’s packaging. It’s a nice updated throwback to the original Legends style packaging. While it won’t fit in seamlessly for MOC collectors it’s a nice bridge from the Legends to the Flashback series.
For latecomers, getting the legends that came out after the Legends series ended isn’t a bad deal. The current Elite style packaging is much improved on how those non-Legends line figures (Michaels, The Undertaker) were originally packaged. I’m a little surprised Mattel made new packaging for these figures.
Chris Jericho is an odd inclusion in this wave. Not sure if there was a demand for yet another jacketed modern Y2J figure. I know the budget didn’t allow for a Flashback Jericho, but re-releasing another hard to find Flashback figure would have probably been a better option.
