Star Wars Black Series gets key supporting characters
Hasbro’s Star Wars Black Series started out with a lot of potential before getting off course by its third series. In the interim, companies like Bandai and SH Figuarts have stepped in with more expensive/high quality 6″ product. But at SDCC, Hasbro revealed some promising new additions that might get me back in.
The biggest reveal for me was Lando. He was one of my favorite additions to the cast with Empire Strikes Back and I was a little bummed out he wasn’t in The Force Awakens. Given the events in Episode 7, I’d really be disappointed if he didn’t show up for at least one important (spoiler) scene. But the Star Wars Black Series version features Lando in all of his Cloud City running glory. The figure looks great and I’m sure even if Figuarts gets around to him I’ll be grabbing this Lando.
Beyond Lando we get two important Jedi masters. The regular retail version Obi-Wan Kenobi and his mentor Qui-Gon Jinn. Both look really well done. As we’ve seen with a few of the Black Series, promo shots and on the pegs version can differ greatly. Hopefully these guys come out looking just as sharp as the prototypes.
For Star Wars Rebels fans, Herc is the latest member of the cast to get a Black Series figure. I’m glad Hasbro is knocking out the team and making a concerted effort to get them out relatively quickly.
On the 3 3/4 front, the biggest reveal was General Admiral Thrawn. Hopefully he’ll be getting the Black Series treatment soon following his arrival on the third season of Rebels.
Luke Skywalker’s Return of the Jedi lightsaber gets added to the FX line. I’ve always been partial to Anakin’s blue version, but this one does signify Luke’s full ascension to Jedi status. Decisions, decisions.
