Warner Bros. Animation has been off its game a little. That’s largely a side effect of having established a well-deserved reputation of cranking out great animated movies of DC’s biggest stars. Justice League Dark looks to keep the momentum on track following the terrific Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders.
Justice League Dark assembles DC’s magic-based characters from John Constantine, Zatanna, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Shade the Changing Man and Madam Xanadu.
Furthering my excitement for Justice League Dark is the return of Jay Oliva. He’s the director responsible for some of WBA’s best efforts as well as being a storyboard artist for Deadpool, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Ant-Man.
Beyond Oliva’s involvement, I’m stoked that Matt Ryan will be once again reprising his role of John Constantine. This time, in a voice acting capacity. Ryan was an amazing Constantine and it was smart to find another way to keep him in the DC mix. If there ever existed the slightest possibility of crossing over the TV and movie universes, Constantine could be a fun Easter Egg cameo.
My only concern here is the heavy presence of Batman in the trailer. Batman is clearly DC’s Spider-Man, Deadpool and Iron Man rolled into one and he could easily overwhelm the characters who won’t be appearing in the next movie.
Either way, I’m excited for this one and looking forward to seeing a darker side of justice when this gets released next year.
