While we have yet to actually complete the seven, we now know the Green Lantern movie will feature two.
Both Hal Jordan and John Stewart will share headlining status in Warner Bros.’ Green Lantern movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Previously the film was slated for a 2020 release date.
Warner is hoping that will prove enough time for fickle audiences to forget the stench of the ill-conceived 2011 film starring Ryan Reynolds.
David S. Goyer (Batman Begins) and Justin Rhodes will handle screenwriting responsibilities.
Stewart was almost a no-brainer. He’s one of the most prominent black characters in the DC Universe and appeals to a wider mainstream audience thanks to his starring role in the Justice League cartoon. If Warner Bros wants to make its comic universe films appeal to as wide an audience as possible, diversity will definitely play a factor.
And Jordan is the Green Lantern for most fans old enough to remember watching Super Friends. Jordan and Stewart are currently two of the main characters in Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps. That’s one of DC’s best titles right now if you want to familiarize yourself with the characters.
I’m still thinking it’s possible we see one of the Lanterns appear in the Justice League films. Likely the second film at this point. What do you think of the news? What other Lanterns are you hoping show up?
