Marvel Studios and it’s television wing hasn’t missed with its casting. Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man? Perfect sense. Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange? Brilliant! But the choice for Maximus in the Inhumans TV show is truly inspired.
Fresh off of being a vicious bastard on Game of Thrones, Iwan Rheon is starring in the Inhumans as Maximus the Mad.
This is a perfect choice. Rheon played demented and twisted with ease on GOT and that experience will pay off with this role.
From the initial description, Maximus sounds pretty faithful to the comic version. He’s loyal to his family, a bit mad and thinks he can rule better than his brother Black Bolt.
‘Iwan’s ability to be charming, roguish, and still completely unexpectedly dangerous were all the different sides we needed to bring the character to life. We’re thrilled to have him on board,” said Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television and Executive Producer, in a statement.
I’m curious what Inhumans means for Agents of SHIELD’s Chloe Bennet. She’s been a fixture of the show, but would probably make more sense on Inhumans when that kicks off this fall.
Inhumans has an unusual setup. The series is going to play in IMAX theaters for two weeks in September before it kicks off its network run.
