Now that the source of his recent troubles are revealed, Superman has to outsmart a vengeful Mr. Mxyzptlk.
But as writers Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason reveal, a ticked off imp is no laughing matter.
Not only does Superman have to defy the odds to win Mxyzptlk’s game, but he’s got to do it in time to restore Lois’ memories of their life together. Meanwhile, the imprisoned Jon encounters two very unique energy sources that could hold the key to escape. Or make things far worse.
Gleason, who also draws the issue, fully gets to let his imagination run wild in Mxyzptlk’s home turf.
There’s candy cane gates and licorice streets to match whatever goes through Mxyzptlk’s head next. Gleason has largely stuck to writing since the opening arc, but some artists would have been overwhelmed trying to put this scenario to page. Gleason is not one of those artists. The spread pages are crammed with little details that require a little attention and peering at the backgrounds to fully appreciate.
Tomasi and Gleason end the issue on another crazy cliffhanger. I’ve given up trying to predict what happens next. It’s so much more fun to sit back and enjoy this creatively inspired ride.
