Is DC Collectibles rethinking DC Icons single release strategy?

Many DC Icons collectors were dismayed at the news that DC Collectibles was shelving the single release strategy. After Nightwing and Supergirl, the line was shifting more to a iconic moments plan.

But DCC might be rethinking its approach with the Icons line. In the latest solicitations, the Rebirth versions of Superman and Batman are being solicited as single release figures. Previously, these figures were only available in the DC Icons Rebirth box set along with the rest of the Justice League.

If DCC is reconsidering the viability of single release figures, Superman and Batman are no-brainer choices. The Batman figure was hailed as the step in the right direction for the line with better size and height. The Superman was an improvement over the single release Wave 3 Superman, but the head sculpt wasn’t quite up to standards.

With Superman getting a more classic update post Superman Reborn, DCC could take the opportunity to add the red boots, belt and an improved head sculpt.

Maybe if these figures sell well, DCC might chance getting a few more of the previously revealed figures out like the Jim Balent Catwoman, Sinestro, Deadshot and dare I hope for the Booster Gold & Blue Beetle two-pack?

Here’s the solicitation info:
