Who should join Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham in rumored Fast and Furious spin-off?

The bada$$ bromance of Hobbs and Deckard just might continue in a Fast and Furious spin-off.

Deadline reports Universal Pictures is in the early planning stages of pairing Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s characters for a new Furious film. Universal has chatted with series writer Chris Morgan about pairing the two adversaries turned reluctant allies in a new adventure.

I like the possibilities here. Deckard Shaw and Hobbs aren’t the vehicular experts as Dom and his crew but they can handle fights with anyone. That prison breakout scene in Fate of the Furious was one of the more inspired sequences.

A spin-off could also bring Scott Eastwood’s Little Nobody in as the guy trying to keep them in line. Eastwood seems positioned to take the Brian O’Conner role in the franchise. Establishing a bond with Shaw and Hobbs would make sense.

And maybe this is a way to increase Nathalie Emmanuel’s presence in the series too. At this point she’s just the object of Tej and Roman’s affections. And Hobbs and Deckard could use a computer whiz on their side.

Since Shaw is already in the mix it makes perfect sense to bring back his family with brother Owen (Luke Evans) and his mum Magdalene (Helen Mirren).

But naturally, there’s gotta be a monkey wrench in all this potential fun. Allegedly, Vin Diesel was so irked that he was losing the spotlight that he shut down a post-credits scene featuring Johnson and Statham. Whether this was before or after Johnson called him a rooty poo candy a$$ is in question. If Diesel threw a fit over a post credit scene a full on spin-off is not going to sit well with him.
