Marvel’s The Defenders trailer dropped today and it was pretty exciting. It’s always a thrill seeing various heroes learn to function and work together as a team. Can you imagine how much more excited people would have been for this had it followed Luke Cage instead of Iron Fist?
Right away we get some mega crossover action with Matt Murdock busting up Misty Knight’s interrogation of Jessica Jones. Not that surprisingly the Iron Fist connection is low. Smartly, the Defenders trailer puts an emphasis on Luke Cage and Danny Rand. While Iron Fist might have been underwhelming, finally uniting Power Man & Iron Fist can’t help but be money.
There were several shots of Elektra, but none of Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher. Hopefully he makes some appearances as he is easily one of the highlights of the Netflix Marvel Universe corner. It was great seeing Stick and Misty Knight along for the party though.
On first glance, Sigourney Weaver’s villain character seems to be yet another emissary of The Hand. Or at least her henchmen are the same generic weapon-wielding goon squad of unlimited supply.
Here’s the synopsis:
Marvel’s The Defenders follows Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.
If anything, The Defenders trailer has me optimistic that the Netflix Marvel series can rebound from Iron Fist. And I definitely imagine there’s still time for another Defenders trailer before the show launces on Aug. 18, 2017.
