Thunderbird, Polaris and Blink rally around new mutants in The Gifted trailer

While their X-Men movies have been up and down in terms of consistency, I’m starting to get excited about Fox’s X-Men TV lineup. We got our first look at The Gifted trailer.

I like the premise of a regular couple having their world turned upside down upon learning their children are mutants. For some reason that seems kinda timely and The Gifted has a lot of potential exploring this concept.

Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.

Written by Matt Nix (Burn Notice), directed by Bryan Singer (the X-Men franchise) and executive-produced by Nix, Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men: Apocalypse, X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Wolverine), Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Apocalypse, X-Men: Days of Future Past), Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Daredevil) and Jim Chory (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones).

The series stars Stephen Moyer (SHOTS FIRED), Amy Acker (Person of Interest), Sean Teale (Reign), Jamie Chung (GOTHAM), Coby Bell (Burn Notice), Emma Dumont (Aquarius), Blair Redford (Satisfaction), Natalie Alyn Lind (GOTHAM) and Percy Hynes White (Night at the Museum 3).

Chung will be playing X-Men fan favorite character Blink; Dumont is Polaris and Redford is playing John Proudstar, the doomed X-Men Thunderbird.  With the setup, there’s little chance of seeing costumes at least for the first season.

And I wonder if there will be any obvious X-Men connection? At the very least the X-Men and Brotherhood were name dropped. Maybe those will come around if The Gifted earns a second season?
