WWE NXT figure line reveals and thoughts on Target exclusive line

Just in time for NXT TakeOver tonight, Mattel revealed its WWE NXT Target exclusive series. I’m always excited about more avenues to get new figures. And Target has definitely been a good partner for the line with the ongoing Hall of Fame line. That reminds me, I still need to get some figures from the last wave.

This NXT line offers a cool Then Now and Forever vibe as well honoring the WWE NXT stars from the brand’s inception to the future stars of tomorrow.

I would have preferred a few swamps from the Basic and Elite choices. On the Basic side, we’re getting Samoa Joe, Tye Dillinger, Sami Zayn, Hideo Itami, Andrade Cien Almas, Kevin Owens and Finn Balor.

Itami has been off TV for awhile, but he’s already had a Basic figure that didn’t sell all that well. I’m betting some folks — like me are holding out for an Elite version. Tye Dillinger also would have benefited from an Elite figure, especially since he’s now on the main roster.

And while I’m swapping, I probably would have liked that Finn Balor to be an Elite too. Just because I dig all the various Demon looks Mattel has made. If you missed the ring in the main picture, that comes with Finn so you’ll get an extra ring you didn’t care about for your NXT collection. Sneaky move Mattel.

On the Elite side, we get an Austin Aries, No Way Jose, Seth Rollins and Bayley. Aries was a great Elite choice. He’s a guy that doesn’t need a dozen variants as his look is largely the same. I’m glad now I don’t have to wait too long for his first WWE figure from Mattel. And the cape accessory is a nice touch.

No Way Jose is a surprise, but he seems a safe bet to get called up. It seems WWE officials like him so there’s a decent chance he won’t get ditched in the next roster purge. As always, I’d prefer a cloth shirt in lieu of a plastic one, but that’s how Mattel rolls.

The Rollins is from his solo days in NXT before he joined up with Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns to form the Shield.

Bayley is kind of a cheat Elite since she’s basically a Basic anyway. The only thing that would make her an Elite is a slew of accessories. Maybe if she comes with some of her ‘buddies,’ but otherwise it’s all about the new color scheme.
