Mage: The Hero Denied #0

MageTheHeroDenied_00-1This 16-page preview finds Kevin Pendragon getting ‘schooled’ by the next generation of warriors, The Steeze. Full of flash and terrible 90s white rapper stereotype dialogue, The Steeze can actually hold his own in a fight. Steeze’s dialogue reads like Matt Wagner intentionally wrote him to be corny or at the very least highly obnoxious.

Wagner has a very easygoing storytelling style. Each panel logically flows into the next. Even with a shorter than normal page count, Wagner made this feel like a fairly complete little story.

MageHeroDenied00-Review05Brennan Wagner’s colors seemed a little washed out, which in this instance gave the issue more of a classic 80s-90s vibe. The Hero Denied concludes the Mage trilogy and while we didn’t get a lot of insight based on this preview, the final act should be a lot of fun.
