Wow. So I know the temptation now is to just zoom along to 2018 so we can get Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity Wars. The new Thor: Ragnarok trailer came in to kinda remind us not so fast. If you haven’t seen it yet, you’re going to love it.
Whoa that was a lot of amazing in under three minutes. Here’s some of the major highlights for me:
The trailer reinforced the whole Thor/Hulk rivalry. I loved Thor trying to blow off their arena fight.
Loki actually managed to get upstaged. This is probably the first film where Tom Hiddleston’s character looks like the main attraction.
Hulk speaks! For most of Avengers: Age of Ultron, the big green guy just grunted and roared. This time we get him in full conversation mode. Be honest, y’all were expecting him to punch Thor off screen at any moment weren’t you?
That shot of Hulk standing next to Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie was pretty awesome. Since Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist have stolen the name, they can’t be The Defenders. Champions is available, but isn’t there a Sorcerer Supreme who we last saw talking to Thor? If we even manage one shot with 3/4 of the classic Defenders that would make the movie for me.
Speaking of Valkyrie, I love that she’ll eventually be in a more comic book appropriate attire complete with blue cape.
But maybe the craziest and unexpected shot was Hulk battling Surtur. He’s the character in the comics that brings about Ragnarok. With Cate Blanchett’s Hela as the main villain, I wasn’t expecting him to show up. Marvel is killing it with major fan service here.
And this payoff poster is pretty spectacular too:
