You’ve gotta love Ryan Reynolds’ commitment to Deadpool. The guy practically begged and pleaded to get it made. The film became the highest grossing X-Men film ever and he hasn’t let up at all in promoting Deadpool 2. Reynolds shared the first look of co-star Josh Brolin as Cable to his Facebook page:
We all have that one, grumpy, heavily armed Uncle from the future. #PremiumCable #MaximumAsshole
Cable has switched his look up a number of times in the comics so he doesn’t have a definitive look like say a Superman or Batman. The essential elements — metallic arm, glowing eye and heavy arsenal are all included so that’s the important part of the costume.
If I wanted to quibble a bit, I’d complain about the size of the gun. In the comics, Cable has always used comically oversized overcompensating weapons. This one is much more realistic, which isn’t necessary at all for Deadpool 2. Besides, Brolin has been working out so give him a gun to match.
For more of an old school look I’d like to see more shoulder pads. And what’s the deal with that teddy bear?
And I just realized I never shared the first look of Zazie Beetz as Domino. I’d like more purple on the attire and think the white eye paint could look cleaner, but otherwise I like it.
We’ll get some more insight when Deadpool 2 arrives in theaters June 1, 2018.
