It’s taken some time as Brie Larson was announced in the role back at San Diego Comic Con 2016, but we have our first look at the star of Captain Marvel in costume.
This is a set pic so there’s no real sense if this is the final outfit. It recalls the green and black outfit that Captain Mar-Vell wore in his solo run. We now know that Jude Law will be playing the original hero with that name so maybe Larson’s Carol Danvers will wear the black and green outfit to start. Hopefully, she transitions to her familiar red and blue attire by the end of the film.
One of the big reasons Marvel Comics changed Carol’s Warbird outfit was its racy look. The modern Captain Marvel outfit trades in sexiness for practicality. At least that’s the notion. The black and yellow outfit actually covered more than Wonder Woman’s outfit though and I always thought that was a unique outfit.
I do like the red and blue so I’m interested in seeing how this outfit looks in the film. Maybe the green is used on set and will be color corrected in post-production? Either way, I didn’t doubt Marvel Studios’ ability to pull off this costume. And Larson looks appropriately super in it.
Expect to see Captain Marvel in her 2019 solo film and potentially Avengers: Infinity War. We’ll see Captain Marvel join the Avengers in the fourth yet to be titled Avengers film set for 2019.
