The Wicked + The Divine: 1923
Sometime ago, I think I may have said that Wicked and Divine is a series that does no wrong. I think I may have spoken too soon.
Taking place in the past with different people as the gods, this entry in the series takes a different approach; being a short novel with a few pages of art throughout. I feel this was inspired by the Japanese form of entertainment called ‘Light Novels’. In a light novel, the story can be long but they are usually short and have a few pages artwork with dialogue as well. Unlike light novels though, the formatting of this short story makes it a chore to read as the words are not laid in typical paragraph format instead like a magazine article.
Though the art is strong and beautiful as usual, this was a complete disappointment for me. I would have much rather have seen this fully drawn out and longer than the typical issue than what was given. — Pierre Brown
