In a move so natural I’m surprised we haven’t gotten one before, Hugo Games announced today it will be producing a mobile game based on the Tintin comic strip.
Tintin license holder Moulinsart is partnering with Hugo Games to craft a game based on the original characters, stories and mysteries from the Tintin albums created by Belgian cartoonist Hergé.
This is kinda surprising that no one has made a Tintin mobile game before. His universe doesn’t have to be very graphic intensive and the mobile platform could make for easy chapter setups. The game will be a ‘Match 3’ puzzle game for mobile devices and the game is planned to launch in 2019.
“This is great news for Hugo Games and for gamers, because we will bring one of the most beloved characters in comic history, the legendary Tintin, to mobile devices,” said Hugo Games’ CEO Henrik Nielsen in a statement. ‘The key ingredients of a great game are a strong story line and good characters, and you don’t get them much better than in the fantastic Tintin universe. Everybody around the world knows Tintin, as well as the characters including Captain Haddock and Professor Tournesol (Professor Calculus in English). We are very pleased to be able to work with the IP’s of Moulinsart.’

Here’s some background on Tintin:
The Tintin albums are among the most successful European comic books of the 20th century and have been published in more than 70 languages with sales of more than 200 million copies. Its hero is Tintin, a courageous young Belgian reporter and adventurer. He is aided by his faithful dog Milou (Snowy in English) and other classical characters such as Detectives Dupond and Dupont (Thomson and Thompson in English) and the opera diva Bianca Castafiore.
According to Hugo Games, the upcoming game will be loyal to the content of the books, as gamers will travel through the same exotic signature places known from the comics while solving Match 3 puzzles. When the gamers succeed, they will unlock more iconic characters, scenes and items related to the comic books. There are 24 Tintin albums and all of them will be covered in the game.
