“The City in the Woods,” “Battle in my Backyard” or “Forest Fighters.” Any of those would have been better titles for “Epic,” a dull animated adventure that’s anything but.

After a blockbuster-packed summer movie season that was rapidly plunging further and further into the category of “most depressingly disappointing summer movie season ever,” the summer’s first must-see film has arrived as “Fast & Furious 6” shifts the series to a higher gear and easily leaves every other summer film choking on its exhaust. If you’re an action movie fan and don’t own “The Raid: Redemption,” I can safely assume it’s just because you haven’t seen it yet. And if that is the case, you should fix that this second as you’re missing out on one the most insane action spectacles you’ll ever see. More

Joss Whedon may be an awesome filmmaker, but he may not be the best at keeping secrets. Not long after teasing a certain sibling pair that he was considering for “Avengers 2,” Whedon confirmed that the mutant duo of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will definitely be in the next installment of Marvel Studios’ cash cow. (From left) Chris Pine is Kirk, Zoe Saldana is Uhura and Zachary Quinto is Spock in “STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS.”
Four years ago, J.J. Abrams reinvigorated the “Star Trek” franchise with a dynamic, fun take on Kirk, Spock and the rest of the Enterprise crew.
While not marking as significant a step to boldly go where few science fiction sequels have gone before, Abrams makes a very entertaining one with “Star Trek Into Darkness.” More

2013 FF: By 2009, “Star Trek” had become too familiar and too dated and the random movies lacked that sense of wonder and amazement that science fiction fans were seeking. Enter J.J. Abrams, who decided he was going to do what was starting to become unthinkable — he was going to make “Star Trek” cool again.
Forget everything you thought you knew about “Star Trek” and beam down to your local theater to see the latest take on the adventures of Kirk, Spock and company which is poised to be the movie event of the summer, if not the entire year. More

If you’re a “Resident Evil” fan and have grown increasingly more frustrated with the live-action films that may as well be subtitled “Milla Jovovich Rockz!!!” some welcome relief has come with “Resident Evil: Damnation,” which is easily the best cinematic installment of the series and despite being a computer generated film, features better acting and a more faithful spin on one of the most successful video games franchises ever. And the new “Man of Steel” poster wins best summer movie poster contest for 2013
May 11, 2013
Action/Adventure, Cinema Convo, Comic Book 5 Comments
This pretty excellent poster was debuted on the “Man of Steel” Twitter page today with the heads up that the summer’s next biggest blockbuster is just five weeks away.
In between, we’ve got “small-scale” films like “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “The Hangover Part III” and “Fast & Furious 6” to tide us over in the meantime.
I’m still not a huge fan of all the busyness going on with the “S” insignia, but clearly that’s something I’m just going to have to get over. Anyway, this poster fully gives that sense of motion like Superman is zooming off somewhere in a hurry – most likely to go bail that loser Batman out of some trouble again.
I already like it a lot more than the “Ooops I dropped it again” poster from “Superman Returns.”
What do you think?
