Of all the female love-interests in the “Phase 1″ films leading up to “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Haley Atwell’s Peggy Carter from “Captain America: The First Avenger” was easily my favorite.
She wasn’t constantly flustered without her boss/boyfriend telling her what to do (Pepper Potts, “Iron Man“) and she definitely didn’t drop everything and run away to help her ex-flame like Betty Ross in “The Incredible Hulk.” Nope, Peggy was perfectly fine on her own and even when scrawny Steve Rogers became Captain America, she remained a strong, capable supporting character.
