Review: Avengers Assemble

CAPTAIN AMERICA, BLACK WIDOW, IRON MAN, FALCOLN, HAWKEYE, HULK, THORI’ll admit some bias before I go much further in this review. “The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” was one of the best comic book based cartoon shows I’ve ever seen as it packed decades of the best Avengers stories into 52 fantastic episodes and did so in a manner that was immensely enjoyable for kids and adults alike.

I wasn’t ecstatic upon learning it was being canceled and replaced with “Avengers Assemble,” which puts a greater emphasis on being the animated companion to the “Marvel’s The Avengers” movie, but I figured I’d give it a shot.

If the first two episodes — “The Avengers Protocol Part 1 and Part 2” — are any indication, I’ll need to start tracking down the full series of “The Avengers: EMH” on DVD real soon.   More

Review: Iron Man: Rise of Technovore

Iron Man Rise of Technovore Iron ManWhile Marvel Studios dominates the box office, the home video wing — Marvel Animation — has consistently been owned by Warner Bros. Animation department’s offerings from the DC Comics Universe.

Although featuring the golden Avenger, the latest effort — “Iron Man: Rise of Technovore” — doesn’t do much to polish the studio’s rusty reputation with a scattered, dull adventure that seems surprisingly dated for a character who’s always on the cutting edge of technology. More

Josh Whedon teases Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver will be in Avengers 2

Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver coming to Avengers 2During the “Iron Man 3″ premiere, “Marvel’s The Avengers” director/writer Joss Whedon announced to Yahoo! Movies that he’s made some solid progress on the sequel to the third highest grossing film of all time and it will have at least two new Avengers familiar to comic fans.

“I have actually finished a draft, we’re in a very good place,” Whedon said. “It’s an evolution, and that goes on all through shooting and it never stops. I’ve done enough shows and movies to be comfortable with that. You do come to a point where we all agree … You lock certain things in. But then there’s a certain fluidity when you’re working with Robert [Downey Jr.]. Robert’s going to want to do something new on the day, and you’re going to want him to, because it’s going to be funny. So you always keep yourself open.”

But the biggest news was this tidbit about some new additions to the roster: More

My man Steve Anderson from Third Eye Comics gives us the highlights of this week’s releases:

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #0.1 KICKS OFF GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY!

Guardians of the Galaxy makes it’s triumphant return to the MARVEL UNIVERSE with a new twist courtesy of MARVEL NOW.

This fresh start is the perfect place to jump on board what is going to be one of the most exciting flagship Marvel titles to debut this year. And, with the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY movie on the way, you know that Marvel is pulling out ALL THE STOPS to make this book a MUST-READ.

We don’t want to give away too much in terms of spoilers, but what we can say is that the series very much has a ‘A GAME OF THRONES’ meets the Marvel Universe and a little bit of FIREFLY in there.

In this special prelude issue, meet the man behind the Guardians: Star-Lord.. and discover how this child of Earth became the ledaer of the rag-taggiest of teams in all the Galaxy.

All setting the stage for something that we can only say will be.. INFINITE-ly awesome.

Third Eye Comics’ Steve gives his take on what’s coming out today:

MARVEL NOW: POINT ONE #1 – THE FUTURE OF MARVEL NOW

This is the springboard for many of the MARVEL NOW titles that haven’t quite gotten the spotlight.

Personally: I am so pumped for stuff like NOVA, and the new GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, as well as Kid Loki getting a starring role in the upcoming YOUNG AVENGERS series. I’m also pretty stoked to see what looks like the inclusion of fan-favorite Avengers movie character, Agent Coulson, into the Secret Avengers line-up.

The Marvel NOW Point One one-shot showcases 6 big stories in a special oversized issue, featuring the all-star creative teams involved with each character. More

DC’S ZERO MONTH BEGINS WITH THE NEW 52 ZERO ISSUES STARTING THIS WEDNESDAY!

This month marks a huge event in comics. The one year anniversary of the now-classic NEW 52 relaunch of DC Comics. One year into the NEW 52, and I can tell you, folks: it worked. It really has done a fantastic job of reinvigorating the characters and stories of the DCU, and has gotten us excited about so many more DC titles than we had been before.

Now, as we move forward into September, DC is doing something that is as equally as bold as the original NEW 52 relaunch: the DC NEW 52 Zero month. More

Yeah that’s a loooooooong way away, but it’s not that bad as there will be plenty of Marvel goodness to keep us occupied until Joss Whedon returns for this much-anticipated sequel. If you missed the round-up of all of the “Avengers 2″ lead-ins, check out this write-up with all the latest on “Iron Man 3″ and the sequels to “Thor,” “Captain America: The First Avenger” and the debut of fellow Avengers founder “Ant-Man.”
