Why can’t more movies be like “This Christmas?” Or is it really that difficult to make a movie that’s a genuinely touching and realistic portrayal of African-American families? [2012 FF: Doubly confusing as the $17.9 million budgeted film went on to earn $49 million at the box office.]
It’s Christmas time and Ma’Dere’s (Loretta Devine, “Grey’s Anatomy”) entire clan is coming home for the holidays to join her and the youngest “Baby” (R&B singer Chris Brown). [2012 FF: Brown has such an easily likable demeanor onscreen and I keep wondering how much brighter his film career would have been without that moment of crazy he caught with Rihanna]. More

The biggest problem with trying to reinvent yourself as a hard-nosed tough guy is when most of the movie-going public most closely associates you as a woman.
