Hotel Transylvania – No one gave this animated movie about a hotel for such horror movie icons such as Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman and the Invisible Man when it came to theaters late September, but it went on to have a tremendous run at the box office and made over $100 million profit. A sequel is planned for 2015, adding to what is already a stacked year what with the announced “Avengers 2″ and “Star Wars: Episode VII.” I wonder if I’m the only one hoping 2014 flies by as a result? 1. Argo – $12.4 million [3rd week; $47.8 million] Ben Affleck’s heavily-buzzzed Oscar movie had been runner-up twice the last two weeks, but the third week proved the right week as it reached the #1 spot. This will be a short-lived stint though with the arrival of family-bait film “Wreck-It Ralph.” More
Box office roundup – Oct. 21, 2012 – Paranormal Activity 4 has scary box office haul

Box office roundup Alex Cross, Argo, Ben Affleck, Hotel Transylvania, Liam Neeson, Paranormal Activity 4, Taken 2, Tyler Perry 1 Comment
1. Paranormal Activity 4 – $33 million [debut week] This franchise has always seemed very limited to me and its appeal has totally escaped me. While the fourth installment took the box office crown, it may be losing some favor with audiences as this was down about $20 million from “Paranormal Activity 3′s” $52 million take. Don’t expect a long shelf life here.

2. Argo – $15 million [$40 million; 2nd week] – Ben Affleck’s drama wasn’t expected to leave the Top 5 anytime soon and it had a modest drop to retain second place. This is a genuine Oscar contender so word of mouth and buzz should only increase as more people see it. More
