Diamond Select The Expendables 2 Barney Ross beret Sylvester StalloneBack in the days, practically every big movie had some toy related merchandise whether (for the time) cutting-edge action figures or some decent stand-in Happy Meals toys from McDonald’s. But it wasn’t often that anything from a Rated R film got made into figures so that’s why I’m excited about checking out these “The Expendables 2” figures from Diamond Select Toys & Collectibles.

From DST’s site:

The stars of the action extravaganza, “The Expendables” are back in an all new adventure and DST has the toys every action fan is going to want! Diamond Select The Expendables 2 Hale Ceasar Terry Crews

Barney Ross, Gunnar Jensen and Hale Caesar make up the first assortment of 7-inch action figures, each sporting actor likenesses and realistic military gear. Each figure comes packaged on a blister card. More

New on Blu-Ray/DVD for Nov. 20, 2012 – The Expendables 2

Really uneventful new release week with the only new film to coming out. It makes sense though as when I think of Thanksgiving, I think of shoot-outs, fist fights and explosions so it’s appropriate that “The Expendables 2” is coming out tomorrow.

People complained that this was too much of the same, but really it’s 80s and 90s action stars fighting and shooting stuff up and the cameos by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and Chuck Norris were great. My only gripe was not enough Jet Li, which I hope gets fixed for Expendables 3.

1. The Possession – $20 million [debut week] Lionsgate’s horror/thriller easily took the box office title in its opening week. September is a bleak month for movies so this could have some staying power it might not otherwise have had any other month. More

My inner caveman review of “The Expendables 2” — Stuff blow up good. Real good.

Assuming you want a bit more in your reviews though, here goes: “The Expendables 2” is a star-studded salute to summertime spectaculars that more than gives action fans all they could want in a big-budget blockbuster. More

2012 FF: This review isn’t so old that my thoughts on it have dramatically changed so this is still pretty much my thinking on one of my favorite, gloriously ridiculous action movies.

“The Expendables” is the kind of all-out, over the top action movie they just don’t make anymore, which is probably a good thing because the human brain can only take a movie that provides the equivalent to getting three consecutive adrenaline shots so many times. Yep kids. If you’ve seen more than four 1980s action movies there’s little chance you won’t be bouncing in your seat in amazement that a movie this awesome actually got made, let alone starring most of the biggest action stars from the past, present and future. The worst kept secret here is that I’ve been all about this little movie you may have heard of… “Marvel’s The Avengers?” Anyhow, Avengers aside, there’s actually a lot of movies this summer I’m looking forward to — one of which features characters so kick-tail they may as well be superheroes themselves — “The Expendables 2.”

I LOVED the first film, which I think was pretty much a given for any guy who grew up in the 80s watching a steady diet of Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, etc.

I’ve neglected talking about the trailer for far too long. It looks exactly like the original, but in true, decadent 80s fashion it looks even more awesome with tons of shoot-outs, explosions and insane stunts. More Schwarzenegger and Willis was a plus, but the additions of Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme far and away make this my must-see movie of August. Pretty much the only way this movie could be better would be if Stallone found a role for Lou Ferrigno and Carl Weathers too.

So in this outing, the gang are on another routine mission and one of the team doesn’t make it back alive, prompting another 80s staple – the revenge mission. If movie logic holds true, and I’ve no reason to suspect it doesn’t, I can safely conclude who won’t be around for “The Expendables 3.” So it’s in his honor, I dedicate this post.
