Robin and Batman from The Dark Knight ReturnsDepending on whom you ask Frank Miller’s “The Dark Knight Returns” is either the greatest or the second-greatest comic book story of all-time, so there’s a lot of expectations involved in adapting it to a movie. More

Sideshow Joker with coat and switchbladeSideshow Collectibles kicks off its 12″ DC Comics collection with arguably the best choice packed with accessories and a straight from the comics looking figure – The Joker.

Sideshow Collectibles proudly presents the first entry in our much anticipated DC Comics Sixth Scale collection, The Joker. Sorry Bats, it’s going to be a bad day.

Inspired by classic comic portrayals, including his 1988 appearance in the fan favorite, The Killing Joke, The Joker Sixth Scale figure was designed and crafted with Sideshow’s trademark attention to detail. Two heads are included, each capturing different eerie and unsettling expressions of the Clown Prince of Crime’s deranged deviousness. Clothed in a perfectly plum, impeccably tailored and trademark suit, and accompanied by a vast array of diabolical accessories, Batman’s arch rival is ready to wreak havoc and mayhem on the citizens of Gotham City. Looks to be another big week with more “Batman: Death of the Family,” “X-Men/Avengers” fun and more all brought to you by Steve Anderson from Third Eye Comics.

AVENGERS #1 debuts kicking off the biggest Marvel NOW titles of the year!

Jonathan Hickman and Jerome Opena. Together. ON THE AVENGERS?! One word: AWESOME.

Heck, even the team roster has us geeking out, with a mix of iconic faves like THE HULK, CAPTAIN AMERICA and WOLVERINE, along with cult favorites like Carol Danvers CAPTAIN MARVEL and THE BLACK WIDOW. [I still hate that Wolverine and Spider-Man are on The Avengers. Sigh. - JKL]

The biggest, and the boldest the Marvel Universe are united under one time. The AVENGERS “go large” in this title, expanding their roster, and their sphere of influence to a global and even interplanetary level. You’ve been waiting for an AVENGERS title that captures the universe-spanning, all encompassing feel of the MARVEL UNIVERSE? You’ve been waiting for an Avengers title that’s action packed from start to finish? Folks, this is it. Assemble! More

If you’re traveling this holiday, you may as well have some quality reading material. Here’s Third Eye Comics Steve Anderson with all the recommended pick-ups for this week.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #698 *DYING WISH CHAPTER 1* begins!

Folks, we’ve been singing praise upon Dan Slott’s stellar run on AMAZING SPIDER-MAN since he first began with BIG TIME a few years ago. It’s been a long, crazy ride, and while there’s been better arcs than others, for the most part, the entire run has been an incredible read. Slott has put in a ton of hard work at rebuilding the world and mythos of Spidey, and in the process, has given us one of the most consistently entertaining and compelling Marvel monthlies on the racks.

Just trust me: it’s worth it. :) This issue is, single-handedly, the biggest single issue of a superhero comic I’ve read in 2012, and yes, that includes some of the already epic stuff out there like the reveal in BATMAN #12, and the conclusion to Avengers vs. X-Men in issue #12. This is a major moment in Marvel history, and come Wednesday, everyone is going to be wanting this one! More

My buddy Steve from Third Eye Comics takes a look at Wednesday’s new releases including the debut of Marvel Now:

MARVEL NOW begins this Wednesday!!

Folks, let me start off by saying this: I was lucky enough to read one of the advance copies Marvel sent us of this, and I gotta tell you: IT WAS FANTASTIC.

Holy crap, this is the best the Avengers comics have been in a long, long time. I mean, we loved the hell out of Avengers vs. X-Men, but it’s been a while since we’ve got really, truly excited about the regular ongoing AVENGERS series in the Marvel U.

But, bringing UNCANNY X-FORCE writer RICK REMENDER on as the flagship writer of the line was the perfect choice, and with ASTONISHING X-MEN: GIFTED artist JOHN CASSADAY handling art…. this book hits home runs on both counts: story and art. More

Hot Toys “The Dark Knight Rises” 1/4th Scale Batman collectible figure

If you’ve been following me at all over these last seven months you know I’m a major fan of action figures/collectibles and one of my absolute favorite companies is Hot Toys, which does nothing short of cranking out the absolute best, most film-accurate depictions of film characters. See their work on Batman, Bane , the Joker, Lt. Gordon and the Bat-pod

Today they unveiled their latest masterpiece. The 1/4th scale The Dark Knight Rises Batman figure. Its release is set up to tie into “The Dark Knight Rises,” but this is really a Batman compilation figure of “The Dark Knight” and “The Dark Knight Rises”. More

Film Flashback: The Dark Knight (2008)

I wrote this years ago obviously, but my opinions on it are pretty much the same so I likely won’t have too much to add here. I just finished watching it in actual preparation for “The Dark Knight Rises,” which would just about have to be the greatest movie ever to top this one for me.The Dark Knight character posters The Joker, Batman and Harvey Dent

“The Dark Knight” is a phenomenal masterpiece whose creators aren’t content with simply making a great comic book movie but craft one that transcends the genre to become one of the best films this decade. More

Hot Toys’ The Dark Knight: The Joker 2.0 collectible figure

“The Dark Knight” is one of my Top 10 all-time movies. Everything about it is great from the script, directing, scenes and of course the acting. Most people rightfully think first and foremost about Heath Ledger’s amazing performance as Joker. He was so incredible that Oscar voters had to abandon their normal pretentious attitude and give him a Best Supporting Actor — the first such merit for any comic book film.

Hot Toys has no competition on the 12″ collectible front and to remind everyone of that, they’ve shown the full version of their Joker 2.0.

If you didn’t know any better would you be able to tell it’s a figure?
