TOM HARDY as Bane and CHRISTIAN BALE as Batman clash.
The Dark Knight Rises – Christopher Nolan’s amazing trilogy wrapped with this immensely satisfying conclusion featuring Batman (Christian Bale) teaming with Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) to save Gotham from Bane (Tom Hardy). If “Marvel’s The Avengers” was the popcorn summer blockbuster, this was the more sophisticated comic book movie epic. Despite the Colorado shooting tragedy undoubtedly keeping some audience members away, the film still reached #7 on the all-time highest grossing charts with $448 million. If for some reason you missed it during its theatrical run, make sure to check out easily one of the year’s best films that will no doubt get snubbed come award season.

Cindy (Jennifer Garner), Timothy (CJ Adams) and Jim (Joel Edgerton) Green give an impromptu performance at a family gathering.
The Odd Life of Timothy Green – I really enjoyed this family-friendly Disney film starring Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton. It’s an easygoing film that’s ideal for the holidays to watch while you’re wrapping gifts or just want something relaxing to watch while sipping on eggnog.
Hope Springs – Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones play a married couple looking to bring back their spark with the help of a counselor.

Men In Black 3 – While “Men In Black 2” was an awful, terrible, abysmal sequel (could you tell I hated it?) this installment was surprisingly fun, backed by a great performance by Josh Brolin channeling Tommy Lee Jones. More

Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory) opens fire on the deck of the Arcadia in Screen Gems’ action thriller “RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION.”
1. Resident Evil: Retribution – $21.1 million [debut week] – The fifth installment of the series rose to another box office leading win even if it’s by far one of the weaker openings of the series. The second and third film in the series — “Resident Evil: Apocalypse” and “Resident Evil: Extinction” — $23 million and $23.6 million respectively had comparable opening weekends, but the fourth film “Resident Evil: Afterlife” had a better haul of $26 million in its opening weekend. Considering there was little real competition at the box office, this has to be a minor disappointment for Screen Gems. More

Box office roundup
Bane, Batman, Christian Bale, The Dark Knight Rises, Tom Hardy

Bane (Tom Hardy) prepares to clash with Batman (Christian Bale) in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ action thriller “The Dark Knight Rises.”
“The Dark Knight Rises” grabbed about $850,000 on Friday, which was good enough to get past “E.T.” for the #8 spot on the all-time highest grossing list at $435,110 and bring its total to $435,414.
It trails “Shrek 2′s” $441 million take, but that seems to be a formality now although I can’t see it knocking out “Star Wars,” which sits at #6 with $460 million.
Internationally, “TDKR” has earned $1,013 billion and moved up another notch to #12. The film it beat out? None other than “The Dark Knight,” which has $1,003 billion.
It could catch up to “Alice in Wonderland’s” $1,024 billion haul to reach #11 and has an outside chance of catching “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” at $1,027 billion. “Phantom Menace” is interestingly enough the only “Star Wars” movie on the all-time worldwide list. That could be interesting in the next few weeks.

Natasha Calis stars as ‘Em’ in “THE POSSESSION.”
1. The Possession – [$26.7 million total; 2nd week] Broken record time again. September is a miserable, awful, completely worthless month for anything close to quality movies and with less than stellar new options, last week’s champ didn’t have to struggle too hard to retain its title. Look for the new “Resident Evil” to take the top spot next week if only because it has a devoted fan following and offers something audiences want to see this month. More

1. The Possession – $20 million [debut week] Lionsgate’s horror/thriller easily took the box office title in its opening week. September is a bleak month for movies so this could have some staying power it might not otherwise have had any other month. More

One of the more exciting parts of this gig, besides seeing modern-day classics like “Macgruber” and “Marmaduke” of course, is seeing a brilliant film for the first time. Nothing can quite top that sense of awe and wonder about what’s going to happen next. While it won’t be the exact same, I imagine that in watching ‘Inception’ very little of that awe and wonder will diminish from one of the most groundbreaking and original films I’ve seen in the last decade.

This really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone since ‘Inception’ was written and directed by Christopher Nolan, the genius behind “Memento,” “The Prestige” and the second highest grossing movie of all time “The Dark Knight.” [2012 FF: Stupid "Avatar!"] “Inception” is Nolan’s sixth full-length film, and marks the last indicator that he’s operating on a totally different level than his peers. He doesn’t need 3D or any other here today, gone tomorrow fad to sell movie tickets. His gimmick? Exemplary storytelling that draws you in and keeps you thinking about what you’ve just witnessed long after the final credits. More

Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises” opened in theaters to a lot of acclaim and fanfare. Most critics agree that Tom Hardy’s Bane was one of the film’s standouts so it’s fitting that Hot Toys recently revealed their 12″ collectible figure featuring the latest Gotham City bad boy. More

TOM HARDY as Bane and CHRISTIAN BALE as Batman clash.
There’s two things you need to know about “The Dark Knight Rises.” Comparing it to “Marvel’s The Avengers” is pointless as they’re two vastly different takes on a superhero blockbuster. If you like great movies you’ll love “The Dark Knight Rises” just as much as “Avengers” — just in another way. Secondly, “TDKR” doesn’t reach the heights of the genre-challenging masterpiece that was “The Dark Knight,” but that was as flawless a movie you’ll ever see so there’s no shame coming up short to that lofty standard.
That said, “The Dark Knight Rises” is the kind of spectacular edge-of-your-seat epic that will have you hooked right from its jaw-dropping opening sequence and dare you to resist the urge to applaud once it’s finished. More
