The Dark Knight Rises” cracked the $300 million mark Tuesday in its 12th day of release to earn $304 million. In just about any other summer that would be major news, but “Marvel’s The Avengers” reached $389 million in the same span and was rapidly closing in on $400 million. “TDKR” is also trailing behind “The Dark Knight,” which was at $333 million in the same time frame. At least in “TDK’s” case it also had to contend with a highly-viewed 2008 Summer Olympics and Michael Phelps’ record-setting quest. More

Steve from Third Eye Comics again offers up his top choices for this week:

BATMAN INCORPORATED #3 — Our favorite Batman title NOT written by Scott Snyder. Find out why we’re LOVING this book!

BATMAN INCORPORATED, is, by far, our favorite BATMAN book that’s NOT the flagship title by SCOTT SNYDER. While Snyder’s is definitely our top pick, BATMAN INC is definitely ranking high up there with it’s killer storytelling by the legendary GRANT MORRISON, and it’s fantastic artwork by CHRIS BURNHAM.

It’s cool to see this kind of retro cool going on in BATMAN INC. It’s VERY reminiscent of Morrison’s work on ALL STAR SUPERMAN, and I think that may be a big part of the reason why we’re digging on it so much. More

Black Widow

Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) surveys the wreckage in “Marvel’s The Avengers.”

Continuing its assault on the record books, “Marvel’s The Avengers” reached $300 million faster than any movie with a $29.1 million haul Friday and safe estimates have it bringing in another $100 million. If those estimates hold true, it’ll reach $350 million by weekend’s end.

Also of note, it’s making money faster than “Avatar” at this point, which made close to $80 million its second weekend so “Avengers” actually looks like it will be the highest grossing movie of all time.

That would make it #20 on the all-time highest domestic grossing list, knocking out “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers,” which currently sits at $340 million.

Next up to dethrone is a film I will take great satisfaction in watching it beat out #19′s “Transformers Dark of the Moon.” I caught a 2:10 showing today and it was packed. For the record, it’s still awesome three viewings in. I’d guess it will easily reach the top 10 by Monday at the latest.
