Top 5 Superman comic book stories we should see for "Man of Steel" sequels
So we’re in agreement that “Man of Steel” rocked and was just about perfect, yes?
Great. I’m already plotting to see it again with my Dad on Father’s Day — yes, he’s that cool — but like most of us, I’m not satisfied and my mind is churning ideas for sequels.
Will they call it “Man of Steel 2?” or start going the X-Men route and be more descriptive like “X-Men: Days of Future Past?”
That’s for the marketing folks to decide, but for now here’s my Top 5 ideas for the Superman stories that absolutely should be considered for “Man of Steel” sequels.
My criteria was the stories had to be solely Superman-focused entries so there’s no “Kingdom Come,” “Infinite Crisis” or “The Dark Knight Returns.” We definitely don’t need another origin story so that eliminates “Superman: Birthright” and John Byrne’s “Man of Steel” and they had to be significant enough stories to be able to sustain a movie. That meant classic stories like “For the Man Who Has Everything” and “Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?” weren’t in the running either.
So with that said, here’s the list!
I do think it was wise for the film makers to not use ‘Lex Luthor’ or ‘Kryponite’ in this film, it at least gave us a fresh new take on ‘Supes’ that’s not been explored before. Next up ‘Lex’ should return with ‘Brainiac’ finally making his long awaited big screen appearance and maybe ‘Doomsday’ in the 3rd film if they make one. I hear they are planning on green lighting “MOS2” to start shooting sometime in 2014, we’ll see. If that’s true I would also like to see a “Flash” film go into immediate production for a 2015 or ’16 release, and perhaps we’ll get a “JL” film by 2016 or ’17. ‘Darkseid’ and the ‘Legion Of Doom’ for the two “JL” films without question, do that and they wouldn’t even have to make a 3rd “JL” film even though I would be all for it haha.
Marvel hasn’t gotten around to a villain team yet so maybe if WB did the Legion of Doom quick that would show how cool that comic staple is. I’d love to see Flash vs. his Rogues!
