New on Blu-Ray/DVD for Dec. 10, 2013 – "Fast & Furious 6," "Despicable Me 2"

Han (SUNG KANG), Tej (CHRIS “LUDACRIS” BRIDGES), Gisele (GAL GADOT), Dom (VIN DIESEL), Brian (PAUL WALKER) and Roman (TYRESE GIBSON) reunite for “Fast & Furious 6”, the next installment of the global blockbuster franchise built on speed.
Fast & Furious 6 – This release is very bittersweet now on the heels of star Paul Walker’s tragic death. After the stellar “Fast 5,” it didn’t seem like the franchise could find a way to top it, but this is a series where the filmmakers fully understand the pulse of their audience and completely delivers. Of all the summer blockbusters, this was the one that left me the most satisfied and happy to pay to see again. And there’s the added bonus of being able to contribute to Walker’s charity when you buy it for home video.

Gru (Steve Carell) has about had enough mischief.
Despicable Me 2 – Another fun adventure with Gru and the girls as he tries to track down a ruthless villain. The sequel misses a bit of the edge with Gru no longer being a despicable villain, but it’s still fun and I can seriously never get enough of the Minions so I loved it.
Battle of the Year – Chris Brown dancing and “Lost’s” Josh Holloway suave good looks weren’t enough to get anyone jumping for this doomed dance movie. This is a “huh, this is on cable right now and I can’t be bothered to grab the remote since I’m about to fall out 10 minutes from now” kind of movie. Otherwise, don’t waste your money … or your time.
It is indeed a bittersweet Bluray/DVD release for “Fast and Furious 6”, I’m sure it’s sales will get a big boost from ‘Walker’s’ death and be a huge seller for sure. At almost 919 million worldwide and now getting a confirmed released in China, I don’t know if that will be enough to eventually get “Despicable Me 2” to 1 billion or not, but what I do know is it will at least be a hell of a lot closer to 1 billion now. What I also do know is it might end up being the second biggest grossing film of the year to “Iron Man 3” if “The Hobbit: Desolation Of Smaug” dip slightly from the first film. Personally I think “Despicable Me 2” ends up somewhere between 970 million to 1.02 billion after it’s run in China ends.
I’m thinking one billion for sure. I’ll be interested to see how Smaug does now that I caught the screening. I’ll have the review up Friday.
1 billion Jeff, I’m not sure about that. 1 billion is not an easy number to hit as you’re seeing now with only 1 film doing it so far this year, 2012 was just a special year and an aberration to tell you the truth. But the F&F films did make 788 million worldwide, and as good as TDK was I think if Heath Ledger had not died that film certainly would not have reached 1 billion. So perhaps Walker death might provide enough of a boost, we’ll find out next summer I’m sure.
No, I was talking about DM2 in China, not FF7. For all we know at this point, the film may not even come out next year.
Oh I didn’t pay attention to what I said earlier lol, my bag. At 919 million “Despicable Me” does have a legitimate shot at 1 billion, rather it makes it there or not it will be very close, it will either just make it over 1 billion or just miss it. As far as “F&F7” goes, it depends on how much footage they shot. From what I understand they started shooting as early as late Spring early Summer I believe, unless I’m wrong. It would stand to reason that if they started shooting back in May or June than principal photography should be just about finished anyway, now if they had started shooting in August or September than that would be a different story.
