The mystery of Marvel's Ant-Man revealed – Michael Douglas to star as Hank Pym
So the cat or ant’s out of the bag now behind the very elusive reveal of Paul Rudd being cast as Ant Man without specifying what role he’d be playing in the July 31, 2015 Marvel film.
Marvel.com just broke that Michael Douglas (“Last Vegas”) will be starring as Hank Pym in Edgar Wright’s film.
“With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves,” said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige in a statement. “We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.”
Douglas will star as Hank Pym, who first appeared in TALES TO ASTONISH #27 (Jan. 1962), with Rudd starring as Scott Lang in the film.
Very interesting and cool choice, Michael Douglas is a great actor and I’m definitely a fan of his work throughout the years. What an interesting twist though, I did not see this one coming at all Jeff. Who knows though Jeff, perhaps they both will be in “Avengers 3′ and surprise you, I think that might be what happens.
Maybe, but at 69, I’m not expecting Douglas to do too much at all.
Not physically Jeff, but on screen presence and flat out acting ability I think we both can agree that Mr. Douglas is going to bring it bro. Rudd will do the physical work of course. I like the idea of two different Ant-Man’s together. Ant-Man is a much harder sell than the other Avengers and bringing Douglas to the mix certainly helps sell it more to the general public in my opinion.
He will, but I’m not sure what kind of pathos they’d give Pym if he’s so much older than the other Avengers and wouldn’t have had any interaction with them.
I would have thought a romance drama about teen vampires and werewolves would have been a tough sell so I think now as long as it’s done well people will go see it.
im just glad they realized that pym needed a nod as a founding member. Not that rudd couldnt pull off hank, but know it seems to make since that he is a more down on your luck type who becomes a hero. even better
“sense”
even though to be honest, I kind of would prefer if Marvel just did a animated release at pg 13 to feature a guy like pym to be honest.
I’d much rather them have made Pym the main Ant-Man and struggle to find his place on a team with guys like Iron Man, Captain America and Thor. That’s what made him so interesting, not necessarily his super-powered identities.
I hear you, but Ant-Man is hard sell movie audiences my friend Pym or not, just is. Why do you think he wasn’t in the Avengers originally. Trust me I know man, i talked to a buddy the other day about Ant-Man and he thought the character and his powers we’re lame as hell, and other people I’ve talk to about it before say the same thing. To comic book fans he’s cool, but to the general public he’s just a hard sell. Now when i mentioned Giant Man and what he could do my friend was more interested in that version, just saying i do understand Marvel’s approach to the character.
Ha! Think everyone would have been more interested in a Giant Man/Goliath movie.
exactly, but Marvel just wants you feel good warm and fuzzy all over… or should I say their Disney overlords!!! lol
