I’m certainly not surprised this was a hit which I definitely expected it to be, but I’m a little surprised it’s as big of a hit as it is. It’s made more domestically at the box office than every film this summer except ‘Transformers’, the only film that can push it down a spot is GOTG and that depends on that films legs. It’s also made more money worldwide this year than any other film outside of Transformers and DOFP, ‘Maleficent’ has displayed very strong legs, a month ago I didn’t think it had a chance at catching DOFP domestically, but it has. It should end up around 237-239 million domestic which is amazing for that film, that would put it only behind ‘Cap 2’, LEGO and Transformers for the year headed into Fall, though GOTG is capable of pushing it down a spot.
Crazy isn’t it? Just goes to show the need for strong female leads in films that aren’t just “Hunger Games” wanna-bes.
Exactly, and you look at the success of “Lucy” as well which will soon top 100 million domestic. I also seen where 44% of GOTG audience was females which top’s Marvel Studios previous high of 40% with “The Avengers”, all the more reason to make a Ms. Marvel film and a Black Widow/Hawkeye team up film down the road. Trust me they’ll both work and some more diversity to their line up.
I’d be very down for a Black Widow/Hawkeye film :-)
