New on Blu-Ray/DVD – Aug. 5, 2014 – Divergent

 

Divergent – A film that more than a few critics, including yours truly, wrote off as nothing more than a Hunger Games rip-off went on to be one of the year’s biggest hits grossing over $150 million cementing the rising stock of star Shailene Woodley. A sequel is already set for next year and the franchise will keep rolling out new installments through 2017.

Oculus – A woman tries to help her brother, charged with murder, by finding proof that the crime was actually committed by something supernatural. Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Katee Sackhoff star in this thriller/horror film.

Need for Speed – The latest video game to film adaptation didn’t get off the starting block despite the presence of Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Dominic Cooper and Kid Cudi making for one of the more disappointing releases of the year as it disappointingly just tried to rip-off the formula that’s made Fast and Furious  such a successful franchise.
