While speaking to Collider, Renner mentioned “there are rumblings of [a Hawkeye appearance in] ‘Captain America 3.’ “I don’t know what’s going to happen there. I’ve got to find the time, man. I’m trying to stay home and I can’t.”
Beyond “The Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Renner will also be working on “Mission: Impossible 5” and the sequel to The Bourne Legacy so his plate is full, but Renner should definitely make any and all Hawkeye roles a priority.
Movie version of Hawkeye is still a blank slate in terms of characterization and isn’t the fun authority-defying character he is in the comics so he probably wouldn’t be a very fun character to headline his own film. And I’m very intrigued with the possibility of Hawkeye having a co-starring role like Black Widow in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”
Renner also complained that for much of “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Hawkeye was the mind-controlled patsy of Loki so he should be eager to have less characters to compete against for screen time. Working alongside Chris Evans’ Captain America, Anthony Mackie’s Falcon and possibly Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier is a lot less than the eight Avengers he’ll be working with in “AOU.”
